History
The history of our company dates back to 1997, when a young Bahraini businessman, Mohammed Al Sharqi, accompanied his sick mother to the Czech Republic for medical care. During his stay, he realized that Arab patients needed to travel abroad to receive high-quality care and that they also needed specialized support and services not only during their stay in the foreign clinic, but that support and service needed to start well before the patient got on the plane.
On his return to Bahrain, Mohammed opened a small office in the Souq of Manama and began helping local Arabs seek medical care in the Czech Republic. The business took off, and by 1999 Mohammed had branched out into exporting Bahraini foods and products to Prague for the Arabs there longing for a taste of home. He also organized regular trips for Bahrainis looking to experience the beauty of central Europe.
Mohammed's instant success was due to his goal of making everyone he helped feel at home. His business evolved and grew, and in the summer of 2003, Mohammed met a German businesswoman, Birgit Hobaugh, who was looking to set up a business venture in the Kingdom of Bahrain. They set out to establish the first health tourism company in Bahrain.
On February 1st, 2004, Bahraini German International Medical Care opened its doors at the complex of the Bahrain Defense Hospital in Riffa. The new company was quickly able to expand through the combination of Mohammed's prior success and local knowledge with Birgit's European touch, contacts and sense of organization. The company began helping patients from all over the GCC obtain medical care throughout Europe.
In February 2006, the company obtained a full service tour operator and travel agency license and started providing tourism services in the Kingdom of Bahrain, creating tailor-made packages for Germans and other Europeans looking for the "local" experience, Bahraini hospitality and unforgettable unique culture that inhabits the "Island of two seas."
Today, the company is named Bahraini German International Services ("BGIS") and has four divisions: BGIS Holidays, Fly for your health tourism, Student Service in Germany, MTG, the Motorcycle Travel Group and the Discover Bahrain travel agency with staff in both Europe and Bahrain. They have helped hundreds of Arabs obtain medical care and thousands of Europeans experience the true Bahrain, and uncountable adventurous travellers enjoy unique experiences around the world by aircraft, car, train and on a motorcycle.
Despite the success, the team at BGIS has never lost sight of the founding, core philosophy: every customer gets high quality services.
